Countdown to Congress!

Pamela Wright, President General

The 133rd Continental Congress is almost upon us! Before you travel to National Headquarters in Washington D.C., to reunite with other sparkling Daughters, please review these important reminders!

  • Check-in and on-site registration are available starting Monday, June 24 from 11 a.m. through 6 p.m. in the We the People Dining Hall on the lower level of the Administration building. See the rest of the week’s registration hours in the Congress Schedule.
  • Please be aware that you MUST have your registration badge with you to enter any of the DAR buildings. When you arrive please head straight to the We The People Dining Hall on the lower level of the Administration Building.
  • As you may have noticed, Memorial Continental Hall is currently undergoing a historic restoration and parts of the building (including the Banquet Hall and many of the DAR Museum period rooms) are active construction sites! Please follow the posted instructions to keep a safe environment.
  • Since we are always on the go, be sure to download the Congress app via the App Store or Google Play to your smartphone or tablet to have all the Congress information at your fingertips. Click here to find out how to install the app.
  • Take a look at the Congress schedule for an overview of all the exciting events throughout the week.
  • Be sure to make some time to visit the Pennsylvania Foyer, where the stellar American Revolution Experience travelling exhibit is set up for your perusal. (This exhibit has been shown all over the country, hosted by our wonderful chapters, so we are excited to have it back at Headquarters for Congress!)
  • We are thrilled to have an incredible group of honorees and speakers for you this year! Click here to learn about our featured presenters and award winners for our evening ceremonies.
  • Take a look at the Congress Insider’s Guide to view the Congress Standing Rules, the State of the Society, the Congress Herald and more useful Congress Information!
  • Delegates have assigned seating in Constitution Hall. Remember to take your seats early so that you can enjoy the band concert starting at 7 p.m. All seats are considered available once the doors open for general admission ticket holders.
  • Summer in D.C. is here! Be ready for cool indoors and hot and humid outdoors. Please keep in mind that sometimes Headquarters can get chilly. Because it is a historic building trying to cool down from the summer heat, more areas in the building are colder than others. So, it is a good idea to bring a light jacket, sweater, or wrap. Wearing layers is key for a comfortable Congress!
  • We are excited to raffle off a Little Free Library for your chapter at Sparkle in Service Night! Bring a children’s book to donate to the event on Friday, June 28, or purchase one from the Amazon wish list during the event and you will be entered to win the raffle.
  • This week you can find terrific gifts and other special items for sale! In the Constitution Hall Lobby, you will find the DAR Insignia Store, the Junior Shoppe, the Museum shop, and the President General’s Project Sales. Additionally, the President General’s Project Sales will be located in the JW Marriott lobby. In the Texas Lone Star Lounge at Constitution Hall, you will also find the Congress shops with their wide array of specialty vendors. Finally, don’t miss the DAR Store on the lower level of the Administration Building.
  • Ready to Celebrate? The DAR Library is celebrating its 75th Anniversary Jubilee at 2:00pm on Wednesday, June 26th!
  • The Library is also open to registered Congress attendees throughout the week. Take a quiet moment to research, browse, or ask questions of our talented Library Staff or meet with the Library Balcony Volunteers.
  • Feeling hungry, or looking for a place to share a beverage with friends? There are plenty of convenient options for food near Headquarters – find some of them here
  • Explore the current DAR Museum exhibit, Sewn in America, which examines the role sewing played in American women’s lives, and in shaping gender roles, whether domestically or in professions like dressmaking or factory work.
  • Fill out a Continental Congress Press Release Request form so that your local media can be alerted to your members’ presence at Congress.
  • Follow along with Congress Social Media on Facebook and Instagram and use the hashtags #TodaysDARCC #ShareMyDARCC24 #DARCC24 when posting about Congress.
  • Take time to learn more about the 133rd Continental Congress Candidates for National Office. This year we will hold elections for the Office of Vice Presidents General and Honorary Vice Presidents General.

I can’t wait to see all of you dazzle at the 133rd Continental Congress! If you are unable to make it this year, you can follow along with the Congress Herald and the Congress evening ceremonies via our livestream. Just a few more days until we can all sparkle together!
