The countdown to America 250 is on! Join us this week as we honor our past, celebrate the present milestone anniversary, and look ahead with a renewed purpose. This once in a generation celebration reminds us that DAR’s mission is as important today as it has ever been, as we continue to shape our American story.
The heart of DAR's mission is built on our connection between past and present, discovering and preserving our individual ancestors' stories preserves America's story. Through genealogical research, DAR helps ensure that these stories are accessible for future generations, transforming history into something deeply personal and meaningful. We continue to identify and document the many Patriots who contributed to American independence—some well-known, others newly discovered, with each story of service adding depth and strengthening our understanding of our nation’s history.
DAR remains committed to ensuring these resources are accessible, user-friendly, and available to researchers and members for the next 250 years. Explore ways for DAR members and non-members alike to discover their family story!
- The DAR Genealogical Research System (GRS) provides a powerful starting point for exploring your lineage and uncovering Revolutionary War connections.
- The 250 for the 250th Database is provided as a resource to help illuminate the important contributions of under-represented Patriots to the cause of American Independence, as part of the National Society's commemoration of America's 250th anniversary. This database serves as a guide to possible African American patriots, Indigenous Patriots, female Patriots, French Canadian Patriots, and Patriots with Spanish service.
- Search through DAR’s Library Catalog which includes records of all of the Library’s published materials.
- Patriot Records Index - Contains every readable name of numerous Revolutionary War records. Over 500,000 documents have been indexed, and millions of names are included.
- Find documented service of Revolutionary War Patriots of African, African American, Native American and mixed descent with the Patriots of Color Database.
The legacy of our Patriot ancestors is America's legacy. By preserving it, we honor their sacrifices, celebrate their achievements, and inspire future generations to continue the story they began. As we continue the countdown to America 250, encourage your friends and neighbors to discover their family story. Let’s use this milestone moment to celebrate and encourage others to participate in building and understanding the continuing story of America.
