Our nation was built through acts of service, and from those earliest acts, a country was formed. As we approach the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence tomorrow, we are reminded that this legacy of service did not end with the founding generation. It continues today with our members, where service remains the living expression of our mission. By serving our communities, we honor our Patriot ancestors; by investing in others, we strengthen the future of our country; and by living the DAR mission each day, we ensure that America’s story continues to grow—vibrant, meaningful, and enduring for generations to come.
While the ways we serve may look different from those of our Patriot ancestors, the spirit remains the same: a commitment to strengthening our nation and investing in future generations. Across the nation, members give their time, talents, and resources to projects that preserve history, support education, and promote patriotism.
Through Historic Preservation, Education, and Patriotism, service becomes the bridge between mission and impact. It is through volunteerism, leadership, and hands-on commitment that DAR members ensure the organization’s work is not only preserved but actively lived. The story of America is not static—it is shaped by each generation that chooses to engage, contribute, and serve.
I encourage you all to explore ways you can serve your communities with the DAR, by exploring opportunities locally, or through our many committees, including our Service to America committee. DAR Members have already logged over 1,450,000 hours this year, and we are just getting started!
The 250th anniversary of American independence is both a celebration and a call to action. Through service rooted in our mission areas, DAR members help ensure that the ideals of the Revolutionary generation remain vibrant and relevant today. 1776 was just the beginning. Each generation adds its own chapter through leadership, citizenship, and service, continuing a tradition that began 250 years ago.
