October brought the gathering of our National Board of Management, and I am pleased to share with you highlights of a very enjoyable week that included meetings of the Long Range Planning Commission, the Development and Finance committees, and the National Chairs’ Forum. It was the first chance to come together to explore the priorities and themes of our new administration, and I am grateful to all who so superbly organized and wholeheartedly participated in myriad events.
It was especially enjoyable to host a consultant from the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission to lead a session on plans for our nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary. We also welcomed the Mobile Education Exhibit of Wreaths Across America (which now displays the DAR logo following our corporate sponsorship!) and conducted a leadership training forum. As we celebrated our National Society’s anniversary on October 11 and participated in the fifth annual National DAR Day of Service, we all benefitted from a fascinating session teaching attendees how to create and add biographies of Revolutionary War Patriots to Wikipedia in order to shine a light on their service. On Friday, we also donned the color purple to demonstrate our support for the victims of domestic violence.
