DAR is so very proud to be a corporate sponsor of the Mobile Education Exhibit for Wreaths Across America – and we were so pleased to welcome it to our National Headquarters this morning! The Mobile Education Exhibit is a 48-foot trailer that furthers the Wreaths Across America goal to Remember, Honor, Teach (remember the fallen, honor those who serve and their families and teach our children the value of freedom in local communities). Our new DAR logo is prominently displayed at the entrance to the traveling trailer that explains the origins and meaningful impact of this non-profit endeavor that places holiday wreaths on the graves of U.S. veterans. The trailer also includes a movie theater that seats 20 people for visual presentations, as well as inside and outside TV monitors to play videos highlighting the mission and purpose of Wreaths Across America.

It was extra special that today, on our National DAR Day of Service, we had the opportunity to experience the Mobile Education Exhibit, knowing that thousands of Daughters across the country join in this annual expression of respect and gratitude each year in their local communities. I have personally had the privilege of participating at the United States Military Academy at West Point cemetery observance for several years.  Thank you, Daughters, for all that you do to salute those who have served and sacrificed so that we may enjoy the blessings of freedom and liberty.

The tour of the exhibit began with remarks by Don Queeney, Wreaths Across America ambassador, with an overview of how Wreaths Across America was founded, while we explored the moving informative displays inside the exhibit. Next, we moved into the 20-person theater in the back of the trailer to watch a moving film about the importance of honoring our veterans through this annual observance.  It was very inspiring to learn of the humble beginnings of the Wreaths Across American effort that now places more than 1.6 million wreaths on veterans’ graves in cemeteries across America, including Arlington National Cemetery.

Wreaths Across America staff even provided a station where we could make wreaths ourselves. It was so meaningful to fashion one of the wreaths that will lovingly be placed on a veteran’s headstone at Arlington National Cemetery for Wreaths Day on December 14. Wreaths Across America additionally brought a special tribute wreath that I was honored to place with First Vice President General Pamela Wright at the DAR Founders Memorial, with Chaplain General Pamela Bork offering a prayer for our fallen service members.

The Mobile Education Exhibit is also open for public viewing while it is here at our Headquarters building today. It has been a great opportunity to bring attention to Wreaths Across America’s efforts, as well as introducing the DAR to a new audience. Earlier this week I was I was pleased to be a guest on Wednesday’s Wreaths Across America Radio Morning Show live with Michael W. Hale, where we discussed DAR, our donation to Wreaths Across America and the Mobile Education Exhibit’s visit to DAR Headquarters. Take a listen to the Wreaths Radio interview here.

The partnership between DAR and Wreaths Across America helps to enable communities across the country to express gratitude for veterans of all conflicts. Thank you to Kristine Wood, National Chair, DAR Service for Veterans, for establishing our relationship with Wreaths Across America and coordinating the Mobile Education Exhibit’s arrival at DAR Headquarters. Thank you to all who have donated to DAR, as you helped make this sponsorship happen!
