The Year's End: A Time for Reflection and Thanks

As 2015 comes to a close, I cannot help but take a moment and look back over a year of generosity, patriotism and solidarity.

Daughters worldwide have responded when we needed them the most, and not only made generous gifts to help in our mission of historic preservation, education and patriotism, but also donated their time and energy as volunteers. I cannot tell you how grateful I am to be part of such a vital organization.

So I wasn’t surprised at all when I recently heard about the generous daughter who stepped forward with a $25,000 Matching Challenge Grant for our year-end campaign. Her gift will match all donations made to the Guardian Trust Current Needs fund between now and midnight on December 31. When asked why she made this gift, she said:

“Our beloved NSDAR headquarters is in need of immediate restoration.  I am proud to do my part by making a $25,000 gift to the Guardian Trust Campaign that will encourage all to join in the Campaign.  It behooves all Daughters to contribute to the Campaign to preserve and to maintain our historic home. Together we can achieve this worthy goal so that future generations can benefit from the many treasures within our building."

I know you have all heard quite a bit lately about the desperately needed restoration at Constitution Hall, but I thought you might be interested in why she chose to support this work.  Her gift along with yours will help make a big difference in those most urgent restoration needs.  You can see more about how the restoration is progressing by reading Mrs. Young’s Blog on the work being done.

As our state-wide initiatives kick off in January, we will be sharing with you more stories from donors who have already committed to the Guardian Trust Campaign.  They are truly inspiring and we are looking forward to an extraordinary 2016, before 2015 ends, I wanted to remind you of three things:

  1. If you are considering making a year-end gift to NSDAR, I hope you will consider the Guardian Trust Current Needs fund.
  2. This is your last chance to make a donation to be included in the 2015 tax year. If you need more information about year-end giving click here.
  3. If you are planning on achieving 1890 Annual Giving Circle membership for the Class of 2015, you must complete your $500 annual donations to the General Fund prior to December 31.

I hope you and your families and loved ones have a safe, happy and healthy holiday season. On behalf of the National Society, thank you to everyone who made 2015 such a banner year.

We’ll see you in 2016!
