Looking Forward to National Defense Night

Lynn Young, President General

I hope everyone enjoyed themselves at last evening’s Celebrate America Night! We had some technical difficulties with a video last night but you can now see the video here: https://youtu.be/Gud_h6ykxlg

It was fun to walk around and explore all that was going on and interact with so many of you. Thank you for all the books you donated to Blue Star Families for their Books on Bases program. If you forgot to bring your book, you can drop it off at the House table in Constitution Hall. I hope everyone is excited about our new Patriot Records Project! I think this is going to be an amazing new addition to the genealogical resources we have available. Learn more about the project and sign up here. Josh Taylor gave such interesting remarks and it was wonderful to hear his thoughts on family history research.

Today voting begins for the Candidates for the Office of Vice President General. We will continue to hear reports of State Regents and special presentations of select National Chairs during the morning and afternoon business sessions. Also during the afternoon session, we will recognize generous Benefactors who have donated more than $1,000 to the President General’s Project.  Also this afternoon, while we are awaiting the results of our voting we will conduct our annual pledging program.  We will take time to recognize all of you who have made a gift to the Guardian Trust Campaign as we read our honor roll of donors. So please be sure to join us. This afternoon, I am honored to attend the Junior Membership Luncheon. During the luncheon they will highlight the wonderful Helen Pouch Memorial Fund and make generous presentations to each of our DAR Schools. I am so thankful for our Junior Membership and for the amazing work they do in their communities.

This evening’s National Defense Night will be very meaningful as we are recognizing those in our military and those who support our military and veterans so selflessly every day. We have the pleasure of having many wonderful award presentations including our keynote speaker Lt. Gen. Michelle Johnson, Superintendent of the U.S. Air Force Academy.

If you won’t be at Constitution Hall this evening, be sure to watch the live video stream online!

Following National Defense Night we will have the Celebrate 125! Dessert Reception, where we will enjoy a slice of 125th birthday cake and wish DAR a happy anniversary! We are eagerly anticipating the announcement of the next slate of candidates during the reception who are offering themselves for service to the National Society for the 2016-2019 Administration.
