Looking Forward to National Defense Night

Lynn Young, President General

I hope everyone enjoyed themselves at last evening’s Celebrate America Night! It was exciting to have a different type of evening event and it was fun to walk around and explore all that was going on and interact with so many of you. Thank you so much for all of the children's books you donated to Blue Star Familes for their Books on Bases program and all of the thoughtful cards you signed for military families. Blue Star Families is such a wonderful organization and we were thrilled to have them join us last evening.

My favorite part of the evening was the Celebrate America! Wall. Members were able to write what types of community service they do on notecards and post them on the wall. The result was a visual representation showing the amazing volunteer work of our members.

Bennett Greenspan and Terry Richey were both such interesting speakers who appealed greatly to our members. They provided so much information about their organizations and how they can be useful to our members.

Today there will be voting for the Candidates for the Office of Vice President General and the Office of the Honorary Vice President General. We will continue to hear reports of State Regents and special presentations of select National Chairs during the morning and afternoon business sessions. Also during the afternoon session, we will recognize generous Benefactors who have donated more than $1,000 to the President General’s Project.

This afternoon, I am honored to attend the Junior Membership Luncheon. During this event we will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Friends of Junior Membership Endowment Fund, which supports the efforts of the DAR Schools.

This evening’s National Defense Night will be very meaningful as we are recognizing those in our military and those who support our military so selflessly every day. We have the pleasure of having two distinguished speakers, General Norton Schwartz, US Air Force (ret.) and Vice Admiral Michelle Howard, US Navy, who will give remarks about their work in national defense.

If you won’t be at Constitution Hall this evening, be sure to watch the live video stream online!
