It's Starting to Look Like Congress at DAR Headquarters

Lynn Young, President General

Today officially begins my Congress week! The Executive Board meeting last week was very productive.

Ann Dillon, First Vice President General, and I will have lunch with the Long Range Planning Commission.  Each of these 12 ladies are appointed for a nine-year term.  They have the ability to evaluate complex problems and suggest solutions to the Executive Committee.

The Executive Club Board Meeting and dinner will be this evening and I am looking forward to being with these lovely ladies.

Today the DAR Library is open to members from 9 am-5 pm. This is a great opportunity for those in town early to work on research!

This weekend, set up began in Constitution Hall to prepare for this week’s events. It is amazing to see all the hard work that goes into prepping for an event of this magnitude. Tables, computers and booths are being arranged to accommodate the members who will be arriving soon. Touch up painting has been completed and carpets are being cleaned. The state seals are hung around the interior of Constitution Hall and outside Headquarters the “Welcome Daughters” banner has been hung and the state flags have been posted along the D Street drive. More preparations will continue as members begin to arrive in Washington, D.C.

Tomorrow morning we will have a special wreath laying at the Memorial to the 56 Signers of the Declaration of Independence in honor of our 125th anniversary. We will pay respects to these 56 courageous men who, despite their differences, came together to sign a document that served as a foundation for the United States. Join us tomorrow at 8 am at the memorial located on the National Mall just a short walk from DAR Headquarters down 18th Street across Constitution Ave. The memorial can be found on the Constitution Gardens Pond.

This is going to be an exciting Congress week! We are looking forward to welcoming you!
