Hello Daughters!

June 30, 2013

Thank you for the distinct honor of being installed as your 43rd President General this afternoon. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible in these next three years.

The DAR is my extended family but I am particularly grateful to my husband, daughter, son and two wonderful grandsons for sharing me with you. My heartfelt appreciation goes to the Texas Daughters for their support, guidance and encouragement throughout my DAR membership. I never dreamed when I joined DAR 36 years ago that I would have the privilege of being the first Texas member in our Society’s 123 year history to be elected as President General!

Your newly elected Executive officers are honored to have the opportunity to serve the National Society. We look forward to working together as we are Honoring our Heritage, Focusing on the Future and Celebrating America!

The National Society has benefitted greatly from the leadership of Merry Ann Wright and her devotion to our Society for the past 46 years. In starting the first-ever President General’s Blog, she revolutionized the way we communicate to members. Her blog was a great resource for news and information. You can view Merry Ann’s farewell blog post and all of her archived posts at wrightblog.dar.org.

I am delighted to continue a blog for all of you and encourage you to use it as a tool to be an informed and active member. In addition to DAR news and updates from Headquarters, I look forward to sharing success stories of inspiring and innovative ways in which states, chapters and members are fulfilling the mission of our Society.

We have changed the look of the blog and I hope you enjoy this interactive new design as much as I do. We have included a new feature that enables you to send questions and comments about the blog to us at headquarters.  Please understand that, unfortunately, I can’t personally respond to these comments and questions, but I will do my best to incorporate ideas that might be of interest to other members into future blog posts.

I look forward to sharing with you the exciting things we have planned in this administration. For the time being, for those of you unable to attend the installation ceremony today, I have included a short video below of my remarks from this morning that give a brief overview of some of our goals.

I so look forward to serving with you all over the next three years as we Celebrate America!
