Although we aren’t vising Hillside School on the DAR School Tour, Mrs. Dillon has invited me to share information about the wonderful school with you today. Hillside School is located thirty miles west of Boston, Massachusetts in the town of Marlborough. The rural, wooded area surrounding the school provides opportunities for hiking, bicycling, canoeing, and other outdoor pursuits, while nearby cities offer cultural , recreational, and historic attractions for the students.

Hillside offers a strong fundamental education within a nurturing family environment.  The school is an Independent Middle School for boys grades 5 – 9. With an enrollment of 150 students small classes are provided with a student ratio of 6:1. Two thirds of the students board on campus, while the other third are day students.  The core values are Respect, Compassion, Determination, Honesty and Fun! The school has inter-scholastic team sports such as soccer, ice hockey and lacrosse.  Also offered are non-competitive options such as band, skiing and art.

Hillside serves a wide range of boys with a variety of challenges from academic to social.  The school serves boys who were not as successful as they could have been in previous academic settings.  It also provides the needed support and structure that helps build confidence and self-esteem.

Since 1925 Hillside has been the recipient of generous support from the Daughters of the American Revolution. Over the past seven years alone the DAR has donated over half a million dollars to Hillside.  Not counting the donations sent by chapters and states for scholarships.

The Massachusetts Daughters have a museum and library on the campus, so when at Hillside please stop by!  May 10, 2017, is this year’s annual DAR Day. Everyone is welcome on this special day when scholarships are awarded by chapters and state organizations, and tours of the campus are given by the students.

We are so proud of Hillside!  I do hope you will schedule a visit to Hillside and experience this great school.  Please contact Rich Meyer, ( Director of DAR Relations for more information.
