DAR Scholarship Committee Application Portal Now Open

Barbara Grant, National Chair, DAR Scholarship

With the change of season comes the onset of colorful fall leaves, cooler nights, and school-related activities and events.  Members, the time is now to help get out the word about DAR scholarships offered at the chapter, state and national level!  Last year, the DAR Scholarship Committee awarded over 1,300 scholarships worth almost 1.5 million dollars.

DAR Academic Works – An Online Platform for our National Scholarships

November 1 marks the opening of our online application platform, DAR Academic Works, for students wanting to apply for scholarship opportunities offered by our National Society’s DAR Scholarship and the American Indians Committees.  The scholarship application timeframe for the 2022 – 2023 academic year is from November 1, 2021, through January 31, 2022 by 11:59 pm (Eastern Standard Time).

Our committees offer a wide array of scholarships for graduating high school students, college undergraduates, and graduate students.  Scholarships are available for Native Americans, and students majoring in education, English, math, chemistry, American history, history, law, nursing, medicine, physical/occupational therapy, horticulture, historic preservation, and business administration.  There is even a scholarship for the children or stepchildren of DAR members!  Scholarship applicants use the secure platform to submit their applications and to upload and submit all the requested information and documents.  Mailed or emailed information is no longer accepted.  The direct URL link to DAR Academic Works is now available today, November 1, 2021: https://dar.academicworks.com.  For more information regarding our National Society’s scholarships and for answers to commonly asked questions, refer to the DAR public website Scholarship information pages at: www.dar.org/scholarships.

Please note, DAR Academic Works platform is not for scholarships offered and administered by the DAR School Committee or the DAR Good Citizens Committee.  Members should visit the members' website and these committee’s webpages for information about their scholarships.

Members, and chapter and state chairs please consider using our one-page Rise and Shine DAR Scholarship Information Flyer to spread the word about our national scholarships.  The flyer is found our DAR Scholarship Committee webpage or in the National Information Packet (part II) or use the hyperlink here to download the document DAR Scholarships Information Flyer [SCH-1004]  There is even a place on the form to put your local contact information!

An Opportunity for Service – Request for Scholarship Reviewers

Once again, all the applications submitted by students for our national scholarships require the need for over 200 individuals to serve as scholarship reviewers.  Do you know someone who might be interested?  A businesswoman or man, an educator, a community leader, a spiritual leader, or a family member or friend who could serve as a one of our reviewers?  To perform the reviews, judges will need to have basic computer skills including being able to open online documents and make ratings using a standardized rubric.  Reviews will be performed mid-February through the beginning of March, 2022.  Please submit the name(s) and email contact information of interested reviewers to the national chair’s email address at [email protected]

Thank you members for helping to get the word out about our DAR Scholarships! Good luck to all the applicants!
