DAR Introduces Refreshed Logo and Accompanying Style Guide

Ann Dillon, President General

After more than a year of research, conceptualization and design, we are excited to give a first look to our membership of the newly refreshed public-facing DAR logo today in anticipation of the official launch and celebration at DAR Continental Congress.

The refreshed design honors the character and style of the original public facing logo introduced in 2002, while giving it an updated, contemporary look and feel to enhance its versatility. The updated design of the star and stripes image symbolizes the waving American flag, advancing the DAR’s overarching foundation as a patriotic organization. The three stripes represent the DAR’s three founding principles: historic preservation, education and patriotism. The strength of the refreshed logo is its versatility. It can be used horizontally or vertically, as well as in several slight variations in which each retains the official branded look of the DAR.

The refreshed DAR logo will be officially launched at the Opening Night Ceremony of the 128th DAR Continental Congress on June 26, followed by a gradual transition period to begin incorporating the new design in public-facing materials and efforts. DAR states, chapters and members are encouraged to start using the refreshed logo in their promotional efforts when it is logistically and cost-effectively feasible to do so. The original design of the DAR logo is still an accepted and appropriate branded symbol to use for the DAR during the gradual transition period as our organization begins to make the change to using the new design of the logo in all chapter, state and national branding.

The DAR Brand Identity and Logo Style Guide was designed to accompany the newly refreshed logo and help provide consistent ways to represent and promote the DAR to the public, our members and our communities. The guide provides examples and templates for how to accurately and consistently use the DAR logo in your DAR activities, publications, online presences, merchandise and elsewhere.  All members are encouraged to review this document.

The Style Guide is located on the DAR Members’ Website as both a downloadable PDF as well as online instructions with downloadable files of the refreshed logo. We encourage you to explore the Style Guide and start developing ideas for using the DAR logo in your public relations efforts. By associating the DAR logo with your dynamic local projects, you will help elevate the relevance of the DAR in the public’s mind.

While we will officially launch the refreshed logo at the Continental Congress Opening Night Ceremony, we wanted to give our entire membership a first look in order to excite you to celebrate and learn more at Congress. There will also be a short presentation about the logo during the Thursday morning business session and members are encouraged to visit the Public Relations and Media Committee table at Service to America Night to ask questions and learn more about the logo and Style Guide.

We are looking to the future with the introduction of this new logo design as we work to solidify our DAR brand identity as a relevant, engaging and purposeful service organization. DAR members are encouraged to help amplify the DAR message to the world by consistently using the DAR logo in all their public relations efforts.
