Last evening’s Educational Awards Night was so inspiring. It was an honor to celebrate the National Parks Service’s centennial and all of the work they have done to preserve America’s natural resources. It was also so wonderful to recognize students and educators who are so passionate about history. I am always so in awe of these young people and their amazing essays. Additionally last night we presented the DAR Media and Entertainment Award to the Broadway musical Hamilton. We were so pleased to recieve a special video acceptance from the two lead actresses who play Angelica and Eliza (Renee Elise Glodsberry and Phillipa Soo). We were alsoso happy to welcome special guests DAR members Pat Sanfter and Elisabeth Schuyler Hamilton Tilton.

Congratulations to the 2016 Outstanding Junior, JeanEllen Hiter Milton! The Outstanding Junior Contest exists to recognize members who are 35 years old or younger who devote themselves to DAR with service that is above and beyond, while also balancing the demands of families, homes, careers and other civic and religious service.

JeanEllen serves as the National Chair of the Literacy Promotion committee and has served in many other chapter, state and Congress roles. She has also served as a Senior Leader for the Children of the American Revolution.  She has also served as an officer and President of her state's Juniors Club and Chapter Regents Club and is a National Chair. Awards she has won since being a DAR member are extensive including Volunteer of the Year, Scholar of her University, and she makes award winning jam! Her community service activities include volunteering with her church, Junior League, Meals on Wheels, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and Girl Scouts.  She is a Data Analyst at Bluegrass Community & Technical College, wife to Jonathon and mother to Katherine Elizabeth. Congratulations JeanEllen!

Today will resume daytime business sessions, where we will begin to hear the reports of the State Regents. We will also hear the nominations of candidates for Executive Office, Honorary Vice President General and Vice President General. The business sessions of Congress are often a great place to gain new ideas for projects or initiatives from State Regents’ reports and take back to your own state and chapters. I encourage you to attend and learn about the outstanding work that DAR is doing across the country.

Be sure to stop by the Congress Shops  in the Texas Lone Star Lounge. Again this year you can enter to win a free sterling silver bracelet! Additionally don’t miss the opportunity to win a diamond insignia at the President General’s Project Tables, located both at the Hall and in the Hotel.

The Historic Preservation and Membership Forums are today at the Grand Hyatt. Stop by these educational sessions to learn more about how you can become involved!

The Page photo will be taken following the Business session this morning.  I will greet the State Vice Regents Club at their luncheon before attending the DAR School Luncheon featuring students and faculty from the DAR schools. We will hear more about the important services our schools provide and get a glimpse into the programs they offer.

If you are a pre-registered delegate, but have not made your way to registration yet, you can register this evening at the Grand Hyatt from 6 – 8 p.m. on the Constitution level.

This evening’s Celebrate America Night  is going to be a fun experience for Congress attendees. We will be celebrating your amazing dedication to the Celebrate America! initiative and your 14,383,078 hours of service to America.

I am excited to hear our guest speaker, Mary Tedesco, who is the co-host of PBS’ Genealogy Roadshow, proud DAR member and a well-known genealogical researcher. There will also be a special presentation about a new DNA project. Additionally, Family Tree DNA will be joining us during the event and will have DNA tests for sale!

I am looking forward to seeing you all there!
