The American Revolution Experience Traveling Exhibit Begins Its Tour

Kathryn West, National Chair, America 250! Committee

It’s happening!  The American Revolution Experience Traveling Exhibit has officially launched and is on display at the Pottsboro Area Public Library, Pottsboro, Texas.  Project Coordinator and Preston Trail Chapter Second Vice Regent Amanda Bauman placed her request for the exhibit as soon as she learned about it from the Today’s DAR Blog of November 15, 2023. Ms. Bauman indicated the process was easy and seamless! We offer that nod to our friends at American Battlefield Trust who are taking the reservation requests and scheduling the events and the movements of the exhibit.

Springing into action and with the guidance from America 250! Committee South Central Division Vice Chair Georgi Brochstein, Amanda Bauman and fellow chapter members prepared to host over 80 attendees at the launch, including Texas State Regent Marcy Carter-Lovick. America 250! Committee State Chair Kate Johanns assisted in the submission of a Celebration Grant for the community launch. The chapter used the exhibit for their chapter meeting on Saturday, January 13th. Members were treated to the exhibit, photos of our founding fathers and members portraying founding mothers as well as and an opportunity to sign the Declaration of Independence with a quill pen.

Congratulations to the Preston Trail Chapter, Michelle Alverson, Chapter Regent for this magnificent inaugural launch.  Many hands from the chapter were involved and the success of the event is evident.

For those in the Lebanon, Ohio, area the exhibit is on display at the Harmon Museum and may be viewed through February 15th. The third traveling exhibit is in the St. Bonaventure area of New York and on display at the Quick Center for the Arts until February 10th.

At the present time, the exhibit, based on its immense popularity, is wait listed. For those chapters fortunate to be scheduled and for those desirous of scheduling, please continue to read this blog for some tips. Kris Wood, America 250! NVC Traveling Exhibit is the DAR liaison for the exhibit with the states and chapters. Her contact information, [email protected] can be found on the committee webpage

  • Read the contract carefully, noting that insurance is required, payable by either the chapter or the venue hosting the exhibit.  Expect that cost to be around $300.
  • In addition to the venue space, there are electrical and wifi requirements for hosting the exhibit.
  • The exhibit is shipped in five hard sided containers on wheels.  Storage is needed for these cases while the exhibit is displayed.  As part of the process, there is a Guide for Hosting the ARE Traveling Exhibition which finitely demonstrates how to assemble and reassemble the exhibit.
  • Depending on the complexity of the reception for the launch of the exhibit and the payment of insurance, chapters should note that costs incurred could be around $1,500.  Chapters may apply for a Celebration Grant of $500 to help offset these costs.
  • The exhibit is only suitable for indoors and the amount of space minimally required is 500 square feet.  More detailed information can be found at https://www.battlefields.org/american-revolution-experience-traveling-exhibit-tour

Thank you to all of the DAR chapters who have embraced this initiative enthusiastically and are planning to welcome it to your community in the coming months. This project is such a wonderful way to involve the public in our work leading up to America’s 250th.
