Opening Night is Here! Celebrate America 250!

Ginnie Sebastian Storage, President General

We are just 10 days away from July 4th, marking 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and I for one, am so pleased to be celebrating America 250! at our Opening Night Ceremony tonight!

We have some fantastic awardees being honored tonight, who have all had significant roles in sharing the story of the founding of our great nation. Most importantly, a special presentation by Honorary President General Pamela Wright, celebrating the important work that YOU as DAR members across the country have done in the past several years to celebrate America250! Through patriot markers, celebration grants, hosting travelling exhibitions, coordinating local events, contributing to causes that support our three mission areas of historic preservation, education, and patriotism – you have played a crucial role in preparing our country for this historic anniversary.

I am looking forward to special presentations from the George Washington Foundation and American Eagle Foundation, a patriotic performance by The Liberty Voices and video acceptance remarks the from the filmmaking team of Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein, and David Schmidt behind the PBS Documentary, The American Revolution.

As a quick reminder for tonight, we recommend those with assigned seating tickets to be in your seats by 7 pm. Open seating begins 20 minutes before the sessions start when all unclaimed seats are open for general seating for those without assigned seats.

While tonight may be the most highly anticipated event of the week thus far, I hope you take advantage of the many events on today’s schedule! These include: the Treasurer General, Registrar General and membership forums, Period Room Showcases and many more.

Today I am thrilled to greet our Pages during their meeting and join in for the 50-Year Club meeting, the Patriotism Luncheon and the Texas Tea.

If you are unable to join us in Washington, D.C. this evening, I encourage you to participate in Congress virtually, view the livestream of the evening ceremonies, read the daily Congress Herald and follow along with Continental Congress social media via Facebook and Instagram.

I am thoroughly looking forward to sharing this historic evening with you all and wish you a lovely day!
