The Wait is Over – Welcome to the 135th Continental Congress!

Ginnie Sebastian Storage, President General
It is my greatest pleasure to welcome you all to our National Headquarters for the 135th Continental Congress!

It is my greatest pleasure to welcome you all to our National Headquarters for the 135th Continental Congress! What an excellent time it is to be a member of the DAR, as we celebrate the accomplishments and impact of our 190,000 members on the eve of our nation’s 250th anniversary. I am especially excited to have old and new members joining us in Washington D.C. where the celebrations of our nation’s history hold a special meaning in our capital city.

As of 11am this morning, registration is officially open! Attendees may check in or register on-site in the We the People Dining Hall from 11 a.m. through 6 p.m. today. At Registration, each attendee receives her welcome packet, which includes her name badge. A reminder that after getting your registration materials, you MUST have your ID badge with you at all times to enter the building.

I am very pleased that this year we have over 5,000 members registered to attend Congress, with over 1200 attending for the very first time! If you see a Daughter with a red, white and blue ribbon on her badge, be sure to stop and say hello. Whether you're attending your first Congress or you join us every year, I invite you to explore the entirety of our National Headquarters.

The DAR Library is open all week long for research! As a reminder our beloved Library will close for renovations immediately following this year’s Congress!

the Conservation Committee and Service to America Committee hosted a “Mall Hands on Deck” service event in conjunction with the National Parks Service and Trust for the National Mall.

While our official meetings do not begin until Opening Night on Wednesday, I am so thankful to see all the good that my fellow Daughters are already up to. Just yesterday, the Conservation Committee and Service to America Committee hosted a “Mall Hands on Deck” service event in conjunction with the National Parks Service and Trust for the National Mall. Over 50 members gathered on the National Mall to clean monuments and signs, trim back invasive plants, and remove trash around the iconic cherry blossoms. This morning, we gathered in the Memorial Garden for the Daughters Tribute wreath laying and various leadership committees are already busy with meetings. I am looking forward to connecting with the National Board of Management at our annual luncheon, and past National Officers at the annual Banquet.
