Oregon State Visit

Martha Burrell, Oregon State Regent
State Outstanding Junior

Oregon Daughters were excited to welcome President General Ginnie Sebastian Storage and South Carolina State Regent Alice Caskey to the 111th OSSDAR State Conference May 14-16, 2026. Nearly 200 Daughters attended this year’s event, including 38 first-time attendees, as we Illuminated our Legacy in Oregon.

Our conference started on Thursday evening as we gathered in the terrace to reconnect with friends from around the state while signing Happy Birthday America! cards for veterans and active-duty military members.

In line with our conference theme, we introduced four Debutantes and recognized three chapter Outstanding Juniors and a State Outstanding Junior.

We introduced four Debutantes

We honored graduates of the DAR leadership training courses and GEP courses during the chapter awards luncheon on Friday. This included twelve Members Course graduates, three New Horizons graduates, six Committee Leaders Course graduates, and six new Triple Crown winners. We also recognized nineteen Daughters who had completed one or more GEP courses. Fourteen Daughters were recognized for completing all GEP Courses – they received a tiara in recognition of this accomplishment. Other committees recognizing members were American Heritage, Celebrate Daughters and VIS. Our State Custodian presented two Excellence in Historic Preservation awards for work done at the Caples House Museum in cataloging artifacts.

During a special moment on Friday, the Oregon State Society presented Historic Preservation Recognition Awards to Eleanor Fuhrer of Yamhill Chapter and Terry Maloney of Mount St. Helens Chapter for their years of dedication to Newell Pioneer Village and Caples House Museum.

Friday evening, we celebrated the work of our chapters, recognized our Cherry Blossom Chapters, and congratulated Cheryl Hase of Winema Chapter as the 2026 Outstanding Chapter Regent.

Mrs. Storage was surprised with a pink glove wave as she entered the room

The cherished tradition of every Oregon state conference is the Youth and Community Awards luncheon on Saturday. We recognized the state DAR Good Citizen winner, along with American History Essay and Patriots of the American Revolution Essay contest winners and JAC winners. We also received greetings from the newly elected Oregon C.A.R. State President.

A highlight of the weekend was Saturday evening's Gala Celebration, when Mrs. Storage was surprised with a pink glove wave as she entered the room—a special welcome in honor of her first visit to Oregon. We enjoyed Mrs. Storage’s presentation on the history of our DAR buildings and library. Following her presentation, 28 Oregon chapters were recognized for 100% participation in the President General’s Project.

OSSDAR presented the American 250! Commendation Award to Dave Witter and the Lewis and Clark Chapter SAR for the Oregon Revolutionary War Memorial which was dedicated in April

Several important awards were presented during our Gala, including DAR Service for Veterans, Youth Volunteer, and Veteran Volunteer along with Outstanding Teacher of American History. OSSDAR presented the American 250! Commendation Award to Dave Witter and the Lewis and Clark Chapter SAR for the Oregon Revolutionary War Memorial which was dedicated in April. The meeting concluded with Mrs. Storage assisting with the installation of the 2026-2028 OSSDAR State Officers.

We are grateful to the wonderful staff and volunteers from the Insignia Store and Development for joining us. Many thanks to Mrs. Storage for the wonderful Heritage Club event.
