A highlight of Continental Congress is celebrating our accomplishments and shining a light on the service Daughters provide to communities worldwide. The Illuminating Our Service Committee Showcase at the JW Marriott on Friday night is the perfect way to do this! Join us from 7-9:30 p.m. for a free, come-and-go event that is designed to highlight the ways our DAR committees serve our communities.
Illuminating Our Service Committee Showcase during the 135th Continental Congress
Don your cocktail or business attire (pins not required!), visit the cash bar, make new friends or catch up with old friends, and immerse yourself in DAR’s commitment to volunteerism. We will have a hands-on Service in Seconds opportunity in support of the DAR mission. We are working with Operation Homefront on a Back-to-School Brigade that collects and distributes school supplies to eligible dependents of United States service members. Through this assistance program, children of military families receive free back-to-school supplies, including backpacks, to help them start the new school year on the right foot! Daughters will have the opportunity to put together a backpack full of supplies and write cards to active-duty military and their families. The American Heritage Award Winners will be honored during a ceremony, with their incredible art viewable during the showcase. There will also be a ceremony to celebrate award winners for the Service to America committee contests. We’re especially excited to be playing DAR Family Feud in the Capitol Ballroom, so test your knowledge of the Society and your fellow Daughters while having tons of fun. Martha Washington and Mercy Otis Warren will be making special appearances around the ballroom, so be sure to say hello and snap a picture!
