The Wyoming State Society Daughters of the American Revolution recently gathered in Casper for our 111th State Conference, themed Illuminate Our Legacy, and it truly was a joyful and inspiring weekend filled with friendship, learning, and meaningful service. Members from across Wyoming came together to celebrate our shared mission of historic preservation, education, and patriotism while welcoming our honored guest, President General Ginnie Sebastian Storage

The conference theme set the tone for a wonderful lineup of speakers and programs centered on ancestry, historic preservation, and the importance of remembering and sharing history. Thursday evening began with a special gathering featuring President General Storage, Valerie Stachour Minnesota State Regent, Francis Stachour, Honorary State Regent of Minnesota, John and Nancy Nakamura, and Dr. Aura Sunada Newlin. Guests enjoyed an evening of fellowship accompanied by delicious Wyoming-grown beef and crème brûlée.

Friday’s luncheon featured speaker John Nakamura, who shared the moving story of how his parents met while interned at the Heart Mountain Japanese Internment Camp during World War II. His presentation reminded all of us of the importance of preserving history and continuing meaningful conversations about our nation’s past.

Following the luncheon, President General Storage enjoyed experiencing a bit of Wyoming’s western charm during a shopping excursion to the iconic Lou Taubert Ranch Outfitters in downtown Casper. Friday evening concluded with formal photos and a special dinner program where Wyoming DAR proudly introduced Megan Smith as Wyoming’s Outstanding Junior for the year. President General Storage then shared inspiring remarks on DAR’s enduring commitment to service, friendship, and historic preservation.

Wyoming DAR proudly presented a $6,500 donation from the State Regent’s Project toward the Heart Mountain Honor Wall

Saturday continued the spirit of inspiration with recognition of our American History Essay winners and Teacher of American History Award recipients. Luncheon speaker Katherine Borges, National Chairman of the DAR DNA Network shared a fascinating presentation on the DAR DNA Network and genetic genealogy.

The conference concluded with a meaningful presentation from Dr. Aura Sunada Newlin, who shared the history of Heart Mountain and the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to preserve the site and educate future generations. During the evening, Wyoming DAR proudly presented a $6,500 donation from the State Regent’s Project toward the Heart Mountain Honor Wall, originally created by internees to honor those from the camp who served in the military. Wyoming Society is honored to continue supporting this important preservation effort, with an additional donation planned for later this summer.
