Nevada State Visit

Mona Crandell Hook, Nevada State Regent

Vivid blue skies and a brilliant sun welcomed attendees to the 101st Nevada State Conference in Reno, setting the stage for a vibrant and memorable weekend. Nevada Daughters gathered alongside members of the Sons of the American Revolution and Children of the American Revolution, creating an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm, camaraderie, and shared purpose.

Distinguished guests at Nevada State Conference

We were honored to welcome distinguished guests, including President General Ginnie Sebastian Storage, Vice President General Cynthia Mangnum, Massachusetts State Regent Mary Tedesco, Indiana State Regent Elaine Sholty and Hawaii State Regent Laura Ingenluyff. Their presence added a special sense of occasion.

Friday began with five engaging workshops that offered both inspiration and insight. That evening, attendees enjoyed a lively 1940s-themed social, complete with costumes, dancing, and laughter—a wonderful opportunity to relax and connect.

Saturday morning’s Education Breakfast highlighted the Regent’s focus on literacy and veterans. We heard from Spread the Word Nevada, recognized outstanding educators Kristian Johnson and Megan Daniel as the first recipients of the Teacher of the Year Award, and honored Camden Zeiler, CAR State President, with the DAR Service to Veterans Outstanding Youth Volunteer Award.

During the business session, Nevada Daughters reflected on a year of accomplishments through a dynamic presentation showcasing their impact across the state. A meaningful moment came with proclamations declaring March 28, 2026, as America 250! Celebrate Nevada Day, recognizing both the President General and State Regent.

The Patriotism and Historic Preservation Luncheon featured Colonel Doan, Commanding Officer of Pickel Meadows, and Nora Stefu, Director of the Fourth Ward School Museum. Their remarks highlighted the importance of preserving our nation’s history. American History and DAR Good Citizens awards were also presented.

Saturday evening’s banquet was both meaningful and memorable. The presentation of the colors by the SAR Color Guard set a patriotic tone, followed by an inspiring keynote address from President General Storage. She shared reflections on the DAR’s rich history, the growth of the DAR Library, and key initiatives of her administration, including support for the Trust for the National Mall’s National Cherry Tree Endowment.

Founders Medal for Patriotism to John Farahi

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Founders Medal for Patriotism to John Farahi. Additional recognition was given to John Yuspa and Frank Greenwood for their work with veterans and Gold Star families. The ice cream social that followed provided a relaxed opportunity for Nevada Daughters to spend time with the President General.

Sunday included a touching memorial service honoring those who have gone before us, followed by the installation of newly elected state officers. There is a strong sense of excitement and optimism as Nevada looks ahead.
