Energy and teamwork set the tone as executive officers convened for the December Executive Week at DAR Headquarters. In preparation, officers worked closely with their departments and national chairs to develop innovative initiatives for review. Between meetings at DAR Headquarters, the committee maintains momentum through virtual Zoom meetings, ensuring continuous progress for the National Society.
A Week of Leadership, Teamwork, and Service at DAR Headquarters
The week began on Saturday, December 6, with several executive officers joining local DAR members and veteran organizations in a heartfelt welcome for seven World War II Honor Flight veterans from Austin, Texas. Sunday opened with a beautiful worship service in the Kansas Chapel led by Rev. Dr. Mernie Crane, followed by a full day of productive discussions focused on departmental operations and national committee projects.
Monday featured reports from senior management including the Executive Director, interim Chief Information Officer, Director of Building Operations, Head of Finance, and Legal Counsel. We enjoyed a festive Legacy Lunch hosted by Corresponding Secretary General Cecile Wimberley, themed “Christmas Traditions.” That afternoon, President General Ginnie Storage led a moving memorial service for longtime employee Forrest Crosley, Assistant Director - Supplementals. Tributes were given by Registrar General Marcy Carter-Lovick, Director of Genealogy Audra Sombke, and friend and co-worker Bevin Creel. Mr. Crosley’s legacy will live on in all the members he assisted over the years.
Tuesday brought a Human Resources Committee meeting, opportunities for officers to connect with their departments, completing the senior director’s reports, and fellowship during the annual employee ornament-decorating coffee break. The day concluded with finalizing nearly 40 rulings for the formal Executive Committee meeting the following day.
The week exemplified the enduring values of the National Society. From honoring World War II veterans to welcoming more than 800 guests during the Holiday Open House, each occasion reflected a commitment to service, fellowship, and tradition. These meaningful engagements underscore the Society’s dedication to its mission as we Illuminate Our Legacy for the coming year.
