Volunteer for the NEW Texas Reparations Claims Indexing Project!

Kathryn Andrews, National Chair, DAR Records Preservation Committee

The DAR Records Preservation Committee is excited to announce volunteer opportunities for the new Texas Reparations Claims Indexing Project!  An estimated 46,000 images were digitized by the National Archives and Records Administration as the result of the Texas Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Honorary State Regent Susan Tillman’s project.

The mainly typed pages are the Records of Boundary and Claims Commissions and Arbitrations 1716-1994 also known as the Texas Cattle Claims Court Case Papers. These papers contain a gold mine of genealogical information as the claimants had to prove their lineage to the Revolutionary War Patriot to support their claim for reparations.

Indexing the documents is simple and can be done at home, at any time, by any Daughter with an internet connection.  The information is typed and includes names, relationships and some locations. Patrice Hatcher, DAR Records Preservation National Vice Chair for New Projects Development is spearheading the effort.  To sign up, click on Volunteer Registration Form or email [email protected] with any questions. Once you have signed up, you will receive additional information including  project instructions, how to log in and online training.

This new project Illuminates previously unavailable genealogical information provided by descendants of Revolutionary War patriots.  We are happy to welcome the volunteers to the Texas Reparations Claims Project (TRC)!
