The 45th International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies (IAJGS) International Conference on Jewish Genealogy was held in Fort Wayne, Indiana, August 10th to the 14th at the Grand Wayne Convention Center with close proximity to the Allen County Public Library. The IAJGS is an umbrella organization of more than 90 Jewish genealogical organizations worldwide. This year’s host was the Northeast Indiana Jewish Genealogical Society.
This was DAR’s second year to be a major sponsor of the conference giving us an opportunity to share information about DAR and the contribution of early Jewish patriots to the founding of our country. This year more than 500 people attended from around the world.
The conference featured forensic genealogist and nationally known cold case crime solver CeCe Moore for the opening keynote address. Four full days of classes and computer labs followed. Special Interest Groups or SIGS and BOF’s Birds of a Feather groups met to discuss research on several key regions of the world where Jewish history and migration are centered. Computer lab sessions and tours of the library were every day as well as extended early and late hours for attendees. Lectures on research in archives and repositories were featured for many global Jewish migration areas including Poland, Ukraine, Germany, Hungary, Bessarabia, Austria-Czech, Romania, Latvia, the United Kingdom, Holland and the United States.
