Honoring Our Military: National Defense Night

Pamela Wright, President General
Sparkle in Service

Seeing members joining together to “Sparkle in Service” truly filled my heart with love for this organization! I hope all attendees had as meaningful a time as I did mingling with fellow Daughters and discovering new ways to participate and get involved with service projects. A heartfelt thank you to the Service to America Committee for putting on this always fun and informative event!

Earlier this morning, we heard the remainder of the State Regent reports, and Delegates voted for the Executive Officers and Vice Presidents General. Thank you to all for sharing such important information from your states with us all and thank you to all our Delegates for voting in these key elections.

Sparkle in Service Night

The bittersweet feeling of the final night of celebrations and honorees is already upon us! National Defense Night is one of our most treasured traditions where we celebrate another pillar of DAR’s mission, Patriotism. Tonight, our keynote speaker counterterrorism expert and former CIA Analyst Gina Bennett! We will also recognize Chief Master Sergeant Tiffany Zaloudek and Colonel Wendy Woodall with the Margaret Cochran Corbin Award and the Dr. Anita Newcomb McGee Award respectively. We are also honoring Colonel Edna W. Cummings and Master Sergeant Elizabeth Helm-Frazier with DAR Medals of Honor for their outstanding work in the military and for advocating for the recognition of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. Additionally, the DAR Media and Entertainment Award will be presented to the film The Six Triple Eight  which further highlights the story of this important all female battalion. We will conclude the evening with our Veteran Volunteer Awardees. After National Defense Night, we will join together to toast to the end of Congress and enjoy each other’s company at the Congress Reception at the JW Mariott!

Hope you all have a sparkling Saturday!
