Sparkling Excitement for Opening Night!

Pamela Wright, President General
DAR Library

The wait is over! Tonight, we gather for the unforgettable Opening Night Ceremony of the 134th Continental Congress—let the magic of Congress begin!

We have many exciting honorees this year, including the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute for their work in preserving the history between Spain and the United States since the days of the Revolution, the Filippo Mazzei Cultural Circle for their work in preserving the history of his contributions to the American Revolution; Kali Reis for using her platform to educate and advocate for indigenous women, Jeff Callaway for his community service work in advocating for animal welfare, and Chuck Leavell, otherwise known as “the fifth Rolling Stone” for his dedication to the nations forests and environment.

Our program also includes some exciting updates related to America 250 as well as a special presentation in honor of the Army’s 250th Birthday.

Prior to getting dressed up for tonight, I hope you take advantage of the many events on today’s schedule, join us for a casual group photo, view Period Room Showcases, The Louisiana Gallery Reopening Celebration (complete with a “second line” music procession!), the Chaplain and Historian General’s Forum, and the Kansas Chapel Open House.

Personally, I am looking forward to sharing a meal with those attending the Patriotism Luncheon, and bonding with my fellow Texas daughters at the Texas Tea!

If you cannot celebrate this evening with us in Washington, D.C., please participate in Congress virtually: view the livestream of the evening ceremonies, read the daily Congress Herald and follow along with Continental Congress social media via Facebook and Instagram.

Looking forward to sharing this evening with you all and hope you have a beautiful day!
