Two Special Wreath Layings during June Board Week

Virginia Linglebach, Chaplain General
DAR Service and Friendship Pollinator Garden

As we head into the final days of the Wright Administration, the President General and Executive Committee participated in two moving ceremonies on Friday, June 20th. The morning began with a plaque dedication and wreath laying, conducted by the Chaplain General, at the DAR Service and Friendship Pollinator Garden. The garden, located just west of our beautiful Founders Memorial, was dedicated in memory of three beloved Daughters - Hilda Craft Mitchell, Wauneithe Mitchell Rouse, and Norma Smith Rouse. This garden is one of over 28,000 pollinator gardens dedicated by DAR members across the country and reminds us of our organization’s commitment to conservation. The ceremony concluded with a recitation of “Circle of Life”, made famous by Elton John, and presented with love by Historian General Cynthia McNamara. We are appreciative of the efforts of our DAR staff who have worked to cultivate and maintain this beautiful green space.

One of the greatest honors of serving in the Wright Administration has been our annual wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. The Executive Officers were given the privilege of placing our National Society’s 105th annual consecutive wreath upon the Tomb.  DAR holds the unique distinction of having the longest, unbroken chain of placing an annual wreath upon the Tomb, which we have done each year since 1921. It was particularly moving to have Sgt. Kaylee Johnston as the host for our wreath laying. We were also honored to be invited into the Tomb Guards’ quarters to meet these outstanding sentinels and share our appreciation for their service. Special appreciation to Richard Azzaro, Co-founder and President of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Foundation, for his continued support of NSDAR.

Thank you to the members of the Pages Committee who helped make the day’s events possible - Rebecca Hough, Paula Eichenbrenner, and Courtney Dozier - as well as National Chair, DAR Tours and Events, Rebecca Grawl and her committee for their coordination of our visit to the cemetery.
