This year at the 134th Continental Congress, Delegates will elect new Executive Officers and seven Vice Presidents General. This blog explains the qualifications for each position and introduces you to the women who seek to fill them. You may find further information regarding each of the individual candidates at the links below.
Every three years at Continental Congress, twelve Candidates for Executive Office are elected for a term of three years. To qualify for national office, each candidate must have held membership in a chapter or chapters of the National Society for at least five years. No member shall be eligible to serve in the same national office for two successive terms, and no member who has served one term in any national office shall be eligible for any other national office, except that of President General or of First Vice President General, until the expiration of at least one year, with the exception of a Vice President General whose term expires in the year of a general election.
The Executive Committee oversees the operations of the National Society. It has charge of all investments, enters into contracts, makes recommendations to the National Board of Management (NBM) on a variety of matters, including the annual budget, among other things and makes recommendations on the dues and fees structure once per administration. In addition, the Executive Officers oversee projects and the offices at national headquarters and serve as liaisons for all committees.
Each year at Continental Congress, seven new Vice Presidents General are elected for a term of three years. In order to qualify for the office of Vice President General, each candidate must be endorsed by a ballot vote of the state conference where she is a member. All necessary signed and verified forms must be received in the Office of the Recording Secretary General by the designated due date. A drawing is held in the Office of the Recording Secretary General for placement on the official ballot.
A total of 21 Vice Presidents General serve on the NBM, alongside the State Regents and Executive Committee members. In addition to attending all National Board Meetings and events, the Vice Presidents General are responsible for the judging of the four national Founders Medals administered by the office of the Reporter General. Many Vice Presidents General serve as National Chairs, Vice Chairs or committee members. They can also be a great wealth of knowledge for their current State Regent.
Please review all the resumes and give careful thought when you cast your vote for these outstanding women. They have proven themselves as capable leaders and have provided decades of dedicated service to our National Society.
