Each stop in our DAR journeys joins us with like-minded Daughters to further the mission and forges ties of friendship built through service. Serving as Treasurer General has been a fulfilling and rewarding stop on my DAR journey. I am proud of the many accomplishments of this administration and cherish the friendships that have been made and strengthened along the way.
Reflections from the Executive Officers: Treasurer General
Teamwork is the key to every success. Working with these fabulous teammates over the past three years has been the honor of a lifetime: the stellar women of the NSDAR Executive Committee, led by our extraordinary President General Pamela Wright; the sparkling national chairs for which I am executive liaison: Paula Osborne (Auditing), Donna Weaver (Development), Lisa O’Brien (Finance), Susan Tillman (NSDAR Technology Planning), Lynne Evans (NSDAR Technology Support), and Beverly Baker (Volunteer Information Specialists); their committee members; and Kate Johanns (national chair) and Korrie Tosh of the Public Relations Committee. It has also been a pleasure to work daily with the dedicated individuals of the NSDAR headquarters staff.
Together, we have delivered these efficiency-enhancing accomplishments during the Wright Administration:
- Launched the Daughters Online Community, a private online platform where Daughters find resources, share ideas, and grow together in friendship.
- Launched the new DAR members’ website with its more modern look and a new States & Chapters section that is a resource hub for every state and chapter officer.
- Launched the Chapter Donation Remittance Function in eMembership through which NSDAR now directly accepts certain chapter donations, ending the century-old practice of chapters routing donations for NSDAR through the state treasurers!
- Formulated the policy on incorporation to help chapters and state organizations manage liability risk and launched automation that allows chapters to report their incorporation information to NSDAR through eMembership.
- Updated policies on maintaining tax-exempt status and conflicts of interest and revised extensively the Guide for Chapter and State Treasurers and the State & Chapter Finances Section of the DAR Members’ Website to ensure conformity with current regulations and practices.
- Strengthened the annual budgeting process by enhancing capital improvement planning.
- Encouraged Daughters to make NSDAR part of their personal philanthropy through the first-ever Celebration of Philanthropy event at Congress and enhanced donor impact communications and appreciation.
- Created certificate templates that take the guess work out of placing award winner names on certificates purchased from the DAR Store.
Thank you to everyone who made these accomplishments possible!
I extend my deepest appreciation to each person who planned, and welcomed me to, the wreathlayings, historical markings, events, receptions, and state conference to which I was invited during my term. It was a joy to be with you!
Words cannot adequately convey the depth of my gratitude to our exceptional President General, and the 131st Continental Congress, for the honor of serving as Treasurer General. As I depart this stop on my DAR journey, I rejoice in the ties of DAR service and friendship that have always sustained me along the way.
