Tennessee State Visit

Emily Robinson, Tenneessee State Regent

What a memorable time with the Tennessee Daughters at their 120th State Conference! From the heartfelt rededication of the Heroes of 1776 monument to the inspiring celebration of outstanding service and Junior Membership, every moment radiated true Volunteer spirit. A special thank you to Barbara White and her husband for the stylish ride in their antique Rolls Royce, to my wonderful Page, Natalie Bigger Davis, and to State Regent Emily Robinson for making my visit both seamless and joyful. Tennessee Daughters truly exemplify the spirit of service, friendship, and patriotism.

- Pamela Wright, President General

The Tennessee Society held its 120th State Conference in Franklin on April 24 -27, 2025, and our “Volunteer Hearts” were in action! The weekend began with the rededication of the Heroes of 1776 monument, which was erected in Nashville by the Tennessee Society in 1910. The monument, restored as a state regent project, includes the names of nearly 400 Revolutionary War Patriots who are buried in Tennessee.  This restoration helped to kick off the State of Tennessee’s America 250 celebration. The Patriot ancestors of all the Tennessee members were honored throughout the weekend, as members learned that 10,000 trees were donated to the National Forest Foundation in honor of the members’ Patriots.

The Chapter Regents Club Meeting welcomed Mrs. Wright to the conference, and she presented 100% President General Project certificates to our wonderful Tennessee Chapter Regents. It was exciting to have Mrs. Wright attend a reception given for our first-time attendees and new members, as well as the Pages Meeting.

Mrs. Wright was the keynote speaker at the Opening Night dinner, and her message “Celebrating DAR Service and Friendship” inspired the Tennessee Daughters. We were delighted to hear Tennessee bluegrass legend Wayne Jerrolds and his band perform a new Tennessee State Song, “Tennessee, Tennessee.”  Tennessee State Outstanding Junior Katie Thrash was announced and celebrated.

The prestigious DAR Medal of Honor was presented to Hazel Daniels, wife of the late country music legend Charlie Daniels, for her lifetime of work to support our nation’s veterans.  The society presented $5,000 to support the Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project. Tennessee Daughters were delighted to greet both Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Daniels at a reception later that evening.

The TSDAR Junior Membership Committee sparkled as they hosted a breakfast on Saturday morning featuring Jeff Sellers of the Tennessee State Museum and his fascinating program on the “History of the State Capitol Building.” Members learned details about the beginning of the Revolutionary War at lunch with Jeffery McKenna, and his book, Saving Dr. Warren… “A True Patriot”.

DAR Leadership Training course graduates and triple crown awardees were honored during an afternoon ceremony and reception. Later that evening, our chapter regents were honored during a banquet, with Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Mari K. Eder as the keynote speaker. Outstanding Chapter Regents Pamela Wood and Rachel McKinley were honored.

A touching Memorial Service was held, featuring harp music and our TSDAR Chorus, to remember those we lost during the last year. Six former state officers were eulogized, including Honorary President General Linda Tinker Watkins. The memorial wreath was placed later that day at the graves of James Robertson and Charlotte Reeves Robertson.

The conference concluded with a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Grand Ole Opry, which included a visit from our own TSDAR Minnie Pearl and songs made famous on the Opry stage. To add to the enjoyment, the newly elected 2025-2028 state officers were installed. The Tennessee Daughters were “encouraged in heart and united in love” as we joyfully embraced our “DAR Ties of Service and Friendship” during our time together.
