Happy Second Anniversary to the Daughters Online Community!

Kate Johanns, National Chair, Public Relations and Media Committee

One of the major initiatives of the Wright Administration, the Daughters Online Community—aka the DOC—turns 2 years old this month!

The Daughters Online Community launched Feb. 21, 2023, and represents a major shift in how the National Society communicates with its members. The DOC (pronounced like “What’s up, DOC?”) provides an opportunity for two-way communication with executive officers and national chairs, as well as spaces for Daughters to engage on other topics of interest, such as our love for DAR-related crafting. Communities within the DOC include resource libraries, keeping DAR tools nicely organized.

The DOC has seen steadily increasing usage each week since its launch. Since Jan. 1, 2025, nearly 6,000 individual Daughters have logged in to the community at least once—and some many more times! Thousands more keep up with the DOC via digest emails.

The DOC is a project of the Public Relations & Media Committee in the Wright Administration, with leadership from the National Chair as well as National Vice Chairs De Williamson and Korrie Tosh. Working in conjunction with our executive liaison, Curator General Dr. Susan Metzger, as well as Treasurer General Dr. Sherry Edwards and the staff Information Services team, we have been pleased to introduce several enhancements to the DOC in the past year:

•    A new scrolling activity feed that includes photos, “recommends” (similar to “likes”), and the number of replies.
•    The addition of enhanced military service fields on the member profile.
•    New officer role communities for State and Chapter Librarians as well as State and Chapter Corresponding Secretaries.
•    New committee communities for the Development Committee and the Franco-American Memorial Committee.
•    A Shop DAR! community featuring the latest products from the DAR Store.
•    The Red, White & Glue community dedicated to all things crafty.

We are working on additional DOC enhancements as well, so please stay tuned!

Keeping the DOC a positive, useful destination for Daughters wouldn’t be possible without the 243 committee admins and moderators who facilitate the DOC’s 81 current communities. (Some of these are invitation-only communities based on leadership role or club membership.) These volunteers didn’t know they would be taking on community moderation and an entirely new platform when the Wright Administration began, but they have absolutely sparkled in their embrace of the platform and their integration of the DOC in their committee’s work! Thank you! (One particular highlight in 2024 was the “Pinquizitive” trivia game facilitated by the Insignia Committee!)

As we mark the second anniversary of the DOC, on behalf of the Public Relations & Media Committee, I want to thank President General Pamela Wright and the Executive Officers for their leadership and the inclusive vision that inspired the DOC, as well as the opportunity to take this project and run with it. It has been a joy to see Daughters learn how to use and embrace the DOC over the past two years. I’ve had so many Daughters come up to me and say they start their morning with the DOC—or, even better, that though it took them a while to “get on to it,” they now can’t imagine doing DAR without the DOC. If you haven’t visited the DOC in a while, I invite you to join us today!
