Minnesota State Visit

Missing the Minnesota Daughters’ Fall Meeting and Board of Management in October due to COVID was quite a disappointment! I had been excited to experience the “North Star Sparkle” firsthand with my longtime friend State Regent Carolyn Loeffler. Corresponding Secretary Janet McFarland attended in my place and enjoyed celebrating their strong “ties of friendship and service.” While I couldn’t attend, I’m so proud of the Minnesota Daughters and look forward to being with them soon.

Minnesota Daughters were looking forward to hosting the President General at our Fall Meeting and Board of Management in October, but COVID had other ideas. We were pleased to welcome Mrs. Wright’s “Personal Envoy,” Corresponding Secretary Janet McFarland in her place. Minnesota Daughters enjoyed the opportunity to show off our “North Star Sparkle” to all our guests, including the State Regents of Idaho, Indiana, and South Carolina. This was a tribute to the “ties of friendship and service” featured in the Wright Administration, as the four state regents had served together as officers of the NSDAR State Vice Regents Club from 2022-23. 

Conference guests were taken to the Minnesota History Center for an introduction to the state, and the opportunity to see the newly opened “Girlhood (It’s complicated)” exhibit, which explores the ever-evolving concept of girlhood in the United States and how young women have influenced politics, education, work, health, and fashion. With a state theme of Remember the Ladies, based upon the letter by Abigail Adams, it was fitting to see how girls have spoken up, challenged expectations, and been on the front lines of social change throughout US history.

Shortly before State Conference in May, MNSSDAR learned that markers placed in a park in Saint Paul had been stolen, presumably to be sold as scrap metal. The members of the State Conference voted to replace the markers. We were able to have them recreated in polished black granite and installed in time for a rededication ceremony on Friday. One of the markers was a tribute to “the men and women of Saint Paul and Ramsey County who sacrificed their lives in the World War.” The original had been placed and dedicated by Saint Paul Chapter in 1922. The other was in appreciation of all members of the US Armed Forces, placed and dedicated in 2019.
