Au Revoir, Paris

Rebecca Grawl, National Chair, DAR Tours & Events

Our travels in Paris culminated with a special farewell dinner at the river boat L’Onyx, in view of the sparkling Eiffel Tower. During this special evening, we took time to thank our incredible tour directors from Academic Travel Abroad (Randall Salisbury, Emma Impavido, Elisabetta Amadi, and Mauro Tonelli), whose knowledge and expertise were instrumental in helping us create memories of a lifetime during our time in France. Although the gala dinner meant it was time to say goodbye to some of our travel companions as they returned to their homes, many Daughters have continued on to Spain and Italy as we continue to commemorate America 250!

- Pamela Wright, President General

What an incredible few days it has been here in Paris! The National Society has been honored to strengthen the ties of friendship and support between the United States and France and celebrate our nations’ special bond. It was particularly fitting to be here on Armistice Day to honor the fallen from both of our nations, as well as to continue to commemorate and celebrate the legacy of the Marquis de Lafayette.

Our members enjoyed a final day of sightseeing that included a visit to the newly reopened Galerie Dior, which shares the captivating story of Christian Dior, known for his timeless elegance and visionary artistry. We then headed to the famed perfumier, Fragonard, where travelers were able to create their own olfactory masterpiece. We capped off the trip with a special farewell dinner on the Seine, dining on the L’Onyx boat under the shimmering lights of the Eiffel Tower.

We presented special gifts to our amazing tour directors from Academic Travel Abroad—Randall Salisbury, Emma Impavido, Elisabetta Amadi, and Mauro Tonelli—who have made this trip so special. We are very appreciative of their knowledge and guidance throughout this adventure. A special gift was also presented to the President General: a beautiful oil painting depicting the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Elysées. We hope it will remind her of the beautiful memories we made here together.

We want to acknowledge the Pages who have served throughout our week here in Paris. Their sparkle and hearts for service have made this week run beautifully. Thank you to Rebecca Hough, National Chair of Pages; Gretchen Adams; Katarina Blakeslee; Allie Dunklin; Amy Frautschi; and Gwen Parks.

Although our adventure in the City of Lights has come to an end, more than two dozen of our Daughters will continue on with a special extension trip hosted by Kathryn West, National Chair, America 250! Committee. We look forward to hearing more about these special events in Spain and Italy in the coming days.
