Barbara Grant, National Chair, DAR Scholarship

DAR Academic Works is now open for applications!

Please help spread the word about our national scholarships offered by the DAR Scholarship and American Indians Committees. Our online scholarship portal, DAR Academic Works, opened on November 1st for our scholarships being awarded for the coming academic year. Our online portal can be found at https://dar.academicworks.com. The portal will remain open for applications until January 31, 2025, at 11:59 pm (Hawaii Time).

A Quarter Million Dollars of Giving
Did you know that last year the DAR Scholarship Committee awarded national scholarships to 70 students worth $247,500? Did you know that we offer 29 scholarships, and several have multiple recipients, and some are renewable for up to four consecutive years? We offer national scholarships for graduating high school seniors, college undergraduates, and graduate students. Our scholarships focus areas include medicine, nursing, history, music, science, math, English, chemistry, law, business, and horticulture.

DAR Scholarship Flyer
To help inform your community about our national scholarships, chapter chairs please consider using our DAR Scholarships Information Flyer Learn More Here (Form: SCH-WP-1004).  Its one-page format is great for school counselors, students, and members. Pictured is Karon Brown, Chapter Regent of the Elizabeth Campbell Russell Chapter, Central City, KY at a high school scholarship fair. Karon provided attendees with state and national DAR scholarship information. Thank you state and chapter chairs for all you do on behalf of our committee!

DAR Academic Works Updates
New this year:

  • Applicants will upload their letters of recommendation directly into their applications. Individuals asked to provide recommendations will no longer need to create a log-in to access our portal. Instead, they will be asked to give their recommendations to the applicants to upload into their application. This action was taken because too many of our applicants were disqualified due to missing recommendations. A review of our application process revealed up to 30% of requested recommendations were not returned by the deadline. Our committee believes this change will be a positive change for our applicants.
  • Please encourage applicants to refer to the DAR Scholarship Committee Application Instructions and Checklist, for tips on how to organize and prepare their online application.
  • The Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy Scholarship’s award amount has been increased from $2,500 to $5,000 and will now be given to four students who have been accepted or are attending an accredited OT/PT program. Previously, only two scholarships were awarded each year.
  • The Leslie Andree Hanna Medical Scholarship’s award of $5,000 will now be awarded to two students who have been accepted or are attending an accredited medical school to become a Medical Doctor or a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. Previously, only one scholarship was given each year.
