The Colorado State Visit

I enjoyed being with the Colorado Daughters for their August Board of Management meeting and seeing old friends like Honorary President General Ann Dillon and my cousin, Marilyn. I had a lovely time exploring the historic Brown Palace Hotel and learning more about the work of our members in the Centennial State. Heartfelt thanks to state regent Leslie Brinkley for her attention to detail, the Sousa Band performance was especially meaningful! Carrie Klein for providing my transportation and my Pages Ali Skewes-Cox and Rachel Kujawa for their assistance.

The Centennial State welcomed President General Pamela Wright on her official visit to Colorado on August 23rd. The historic Brown Palace Hotel in Denver was the destination for lunch where Mrs. Wright was joined by Honorary President General Ann Dillon, Vice President General Bethe Clark-Urban, myself and Vice Regent Carrie Klein.  Mrs. Wright was treated to a tour of the hotel and learned more about the history and unique architecture of this Denver landmark.

Friday evening was a sparkling night of fellowship and celebration of Mrs. Wright’s President General’s theme, Celebrate Stars & Stripes Forever.  The John Philip Sousa Band of Colorado was invited to perform patriotic marches and melodies, much to the delight of Mrs. Wright.  The band had everyone’s toes tapping to favorites such as the “Washington Post March” and “The Stars and Stripes Forever”. Colorado Daughter Paula Stolebarger introduced a “Getting To Know You” game designed to test our knowledge of little known facts about our President General. A remarkable connection was highlighted that the year Mrs. Wright joined the DAR in 1987 was also the same year that “The Stars and Stripes Forever” became the national march of the United States of America. A truly serendipitous connection!

Colorado Daughter Beverly Sceery celebrated her 80-year membership anniversary and was thrilled to receive an America 250! commemorative bowl from Mrs. Wright in honor of this milestone anniversary. As the luncheon keynote speaker, Mrs. Wright shared remarks on the role that friendships play in our DAR journeys, reminding us that our connections to our fellow Daughters should be cherished.

Thank you, Mrs. Wright, for bringing your sparkle to Colorado! Our toes are still tapping to the sounds of “The Stars and Stripes Forever” resonating through our state.
