Idaho State Visit

I had the pleasure of attending the Idaho State Society’s 110th State Conference in Boise! Idaho’s official state nickname is The Gem State, which I found fitting this weekend as the Idaho Daughters sparkled in their service not only for the DAR but to America as well. The weekend was an exciting one as we were able to witness the first Idaho America 250! Marker. I would like to thank State Regent Janice Beller for all she did for the Conference. I would also like to thank Katie Marcum and Lark Phillips for being my Pages. Thank you again to Katie Marcum and also Kathy Hilton for providing my transportation. Most of all thank you Idaho Daughters for hosting me!

From the moment President General Wright touched down in Boise for the 110th Idaho State Conference, we enjoyed every second of our time with her!  We made the most of her visit, starting with the dedication of Idaho’s first America 250! Marker, placed in Nampa, Idaho, by Ee-dah-how Chapter.  Placed in the aptly-named Liberty Park off Constitution Way, this marker is the first of many Idaho intends to dedicate and the picturesque weather echoed the sunshine in our hearts for this special moment.  Then it was back to Boise, where Mrs. Wright helped members of Pioneer Chapter unveil their latest NSDAR Historic Marker.  The marker honors the work of the Hardy Family in their preservation of Idaho’s (almost) 100-year-old Egyptian Theater.  Guests marveled at the attention to detail displayed with the restoration and maintenance of this beautiful gem in Idaho’s capital city.  Immediately following the ceremony at the theater, Idaho’s Board of Management gathered for a dinner in Mrs. Wright’s honor at the historic Boise Depot train station, where she was presented with a $3,500 check for the President General’s Project on behalf of Idaho’s leadership.  We then headed back to the host hotel, where Idaho’s State Membership Chair Dawn Fleishans hosted the first “Eaglies” to honor chapters doing excellent work to retain members, and Mrs. Wright congratulated Idaho’s sixty-three graduates from DAR Leadership Training courses since our last state conference. 

The State Regent’s Project also took center stage on Friday, when Linzi Anderson, an Elizabeth Dole Foundation Hidden Heroes Fellow, spoke to the group about the challenges of being a military caregiver.  The project seeks to identify, support, and connect Idaho’s military caregivers through a public information campaign, in addition to securing proclamations of support from all 44 of Idaho’s counties and as many cities as possible.  Just three months into the proclamation campaign, Idaho secured its 50th proclamation and Ms. Anderson was presented with the first DAR Medal of Appreciation from the Idaho State Society.
