As we began planning for the Wright Administration, we wanted to create a cohesive three-year theme that would not only support the goals of the Administration but also tie closely to the mission areas of our National Society. Inspired by the Wright Administration goal to ‘celebrate our nation’s rich history and diversity of experience upon the threshold of America’s 250th anniversary’ the three-year theme will focus on celebrating the contributions of women to the American Revolution. The race name, “Remember the Ladies,” comes from a line written by Abigail Adams in a letter to her husband, John Adams. As we race towards America’s 250th anniversary, we need your help to answer Abigail’s call.
This year, Juniors highlight the over 50 women who, in 1774, participated in the Edenton Tea Party, one of the earliest organized political activities by women in United States history. Last year we celebrated Polly Cooper and next year we look forward to honoring Leonor Delgado. To celebrate the contributions of these women and the theme, we created three fan-shaped medals that when placed together will form a circle (with an acrylic display for the medals available in the final year). Each year’s medal will feature icons representing the honorees. If you missed last year’s event honoring Polly Cooper but still want to collect the medal, we’ve reopened registration. You can travel back in time to collect the 2023 medal now through April 15, 2024.
In addition medals, race shirts, water bottles, and sports headbands are available as a fundraiser through Custom Ink.
