Over the past 12 months, our executive officers and national committee leaders have built a thriving, dynamic community with thousands of fascinating conversations about all things DAR. The Daughters Online Community (DOC) has turned out to be a different place than any of us could have imagined. It’s a little bit like Facebook, a little bit like LinkedIn, a little bit like Reddit, and honestly just its own thing altogether. But most importantly, it’s our space, and we want to thank every Daughter who is contributing to making the DOC our online home. (In the next few weeks, we will send all current DOC users a survey to learn more about their experiences.)
If you haven’t logged in to the DOC yet or it’s been a while since you visited, here are some facts that may intrigue you:
- Since the launch of the DOC, nearly 13,500 Daughters have logged in to participate.
- Daughters have sent one another 163,770 contact requests as of this writing.
- Almost 30,000 messages have been posted.
- An incredible 2,244 library entries/resources have been shared and downloaded nearly 190,000 times!
- The five largest communities open to all members are Lineage Research (2,010 members), America 250! (1,897), Women’s Issues (1,366), DAR DNA Network (1,359) and Membership (1,348).
As you can see, there’s a lot happening on the DOC, and it’s available 24/7 to every DAR member. To get started on the DOC, visit the Tutorials page, where you’ll find instructions for signing in, changing your email settings, adding your profile photo, changing your discussion signature, posting library entries and adding photos to discussion posts. Another great resource is the “Get the Ins and Outs of the Daughters Online Community” webinar available in the DAR Leadership Training webinar library.
The DOC volunteer support team has helped many state societies and chapters promote the DOC with virtual and in-person training sessions. Thank you to everyone who has so graciously invited us to share DOC tips and tricks! We look forward to training more Daughters on how to use the DOC over the next year.
One final word on the DOC: With the exception of technical expertise and support from our talented Information Services staff at DAR Headquarters, the DOC is entirely volunteer-driven! More than 200 volunteers serve as community administrators and moderators. The DOC is an incredible team effort. Thank you for making the DOC sparkle during its first year!
We look forward to seeing you on the Daughters Online Community!
