Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party with the DAR Library this December! The Library will host a Holiday Tea commemorating this famous event at DAR Headquarters in Washington, DC, on December 16th. The Holiday Tea will be in the beautiful O’Byrne Gallery from 11am to 1pm. Tickets will be $55 and will go on sale on starting November 1, 2023.
Guests will be able to explore Memorial Continental Hall decked out for the holidays before sitting down to two courses and the tea of their choice in the O’Byrne Gallery. A reenactor in colonial period costume will be available for photos and to talk about tea traditions from the Revolutionary War era. The event will also feature a short presentation on facts and fictions about the Boston Tea Party.
Hats, gloves, fancy dress, or period clothes are encouraged (but not required) to make all of your photos sparkle! Each attendee will also be automatically entered in a raffle for a Mystery Gift Basket courtesy of the DAR Library.
The tea-themed tables have 10 seats each, so guests can purchase a single seat or come as a group. We strongly encourage attendees to organize and have one person purchase tickets to ensure larger groups can sit together.
In addition to the tea party itself, visitors can explore a display of period tea artifacts in the DAR Museum Study Gallery. DAR Museum Docents will be on hand to provide guided tours of the period rooms after the tea, giving you a chance to see all the special holiday decorations throughout Memorial Continental Hall.
Ticketed guests will also enjoy exclusive sales at the DAR Museum Shop, which features a variety of items in all price ranges to satisfy your holiday shopping needs. Note: this only applies to day-of sales at the Museum Shop, not the DAR Store, which is closed on Saturdays.
The Library will be open from 9-5 that day, and there will be a special orientation session for anyone interested in learning more about the collections and resources immediately after the tea event.
There are only 100 seats available for this event, so make sure you watch the DAR Library’s Facebook page (@NSDARLibrary) for the opening of registration. Reserve your spot to ring in the holiday season and the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution!
