Since the creation of the Service to America Committee (originally known as the Celebrate America! Committee), Daughters have logged more than 50 million hours of service! This is a true testament to honoring our Founders and their wishes to have a Society “founded on service.”
One of the largest collective acts of service takes place in October as we celebrate the founding of the National Society with the DAR Annual Day of Service. In 2022, 1,996 chapters reported that they participated in a DAR Annual Day of Service in the month of October. Can we reach more than 2,000 in 2023? Perhaps even 2,023?
Service projects do not need to be elaborate or complicated. Our Mission of Historic Preservation, Education, and Patriotism affords many opportunities for service! Your chapter could clean a historic property (perhaps a chapter house or other historic property in your community, or clean headstones or monuments and markers in support of Historic Preservation. You could participate in the Service to America Annual Project by donating books to local libraries or schools or reading to students at a school or children at a local library’s story time in support of Education. If mobility is an issue for your chapter members, consider writing cards to veterans or active-duty military in support of Patriotism.
