Today's DAR
As part of the 50th anniversary of The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration, DAR will participate in a historic three-day event in Washington, DC, May 11-13, 2023, on the National Mall and Memorial Park. The Commemoration will be hosting a multi-location event titled: “Welcome Home! A Nation Honors our Vietnam Veterans and Their Families.” This interactive, immersive experience will feature over ninety participating organizations, and is open to the public. Everyone is welcome to attend this generational learning opportunity with their family.
For those unable to attend in person, a few of the events will be livestreamed, so you can watch from home! We also encourage you to host watch parties in your community or with your chapter. Invite your local Vietnam Veterans to join you! Keep in mind, the livestreams will be available for an indefinite time period, so plan accordingly. Tune in and watch this historic event at the National Mall and Memorial Park to Welcome Home, Honor, Respect and Never Forget our Vietnam Veterans.
Festivities that will be livestreamed:
Opening Ceremony, Thursday, May 11 at 11 a.m. EST. This ceremony will be held at the west end of the JFK Hockey Fields. The ceremony will include a ribbon-cutting with special remarks and a flyover by four Vietnam War period Huey helicopters in 4-ship formation. DAR is honored to have our very own Junelle Mongno, Reporter General and Vietnam Veteran participating in the opening ceremonies.
Welcome Home Celebration, Saturday, May 13, 1 p.m. EST. This special event will be co-hosted by NFL legend and broadcaster Joe Theismann, and former Miss America and ESPN reporter Sharlene Wells Hawkes, as well as other special guests. It will include a flyover, multimedia effects, jumbotrons, narration, singing, military bands and guest performers all honoring our Vietnam veterans and their families.
Both of these events will be livestreamed on the Facebook page of The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration.

Commemorative Vietnam Veteran Welcome Home polo shirts are available at the DAR Store to purchase for $45 each.
