A Sparkling 2022 in Service to America!

Jamie Burchfield, National Chair, Service to America Committee

Congratulations, Daughters! In 2022, you set a new record for the number of hours recorded for Service to America with an incredible 6,591,957 hours! Daughters enthusiastically logged 1.5 million hours in the final months of the VanBuren Administration and 5,054,005 hours in just the first six months of the Wright Administration! We are well on our way to achieving our goal of 15 million hours of service logged during the Wright Administration as we Sparkle in Service to America.

As you begin logging your 2023 Service to America hours, you will notice several updates to the Service to America Online Tally that we hope will make it easier for you to accurately report your service. First, you can now log your service in hours and 15, 30, 45-minute increments! The 15-minute and 30-minute options will certainly be helpful for chapters as they complete Service in Seconds projects.

The Mission Area has been expanded to include Historic Preservation, Education, Patriotism, Community Service, and DAR Work. If you click the blue question mark next to each option you will be able to view an extensive list of activities that count for that activity. Please note that this list is not exclusive to all types of permissible activities. It would be impossible to name all service activities, but the Service to America committee in partnership with the Master Reports committee worked diligently to come up with a comprehensive list of as many activities under each Mission area as possible. We know Daughters will especially enjoy the inclusion of Community Service heading for the work you do with animals and other activities that are not directly related to DAR Mission areas.

Finally, you will now utilize the Service to America Online Tally to log the number of cemeteries supported and headstones cleaned in support of the NSDAR Service to America Annual Project. The Google form that was utilized before now has been closed. This year’s project is in support of Historic Preservation and to date more than 10,000 headstones have been cleaned in more than 400 cemeteries nationwide! We are excited to see what spring will bring as we finish our first Annual Project and look forward to announcing the final tally and introducing next year’s Education-themed project at Continental Congress.
