The Florida State Conference

March 2-5 was a dream come true as I joined the Florida Daughters in Orlando for their 121st State Conference! State Regent, Debbie Duay, certainly created a buzz as she engaged members to share their accomplishments achieved through service in our mission areas of historic preservation, education and patriotism.   I have always wanted to claim relatives in Florida and now I can.  Through the Family Tree Relatives Around Me app and Dr. Duay’s guidance, my cousin, Marilyn, and I now have at least 75 new relatives!

The Florida Daughters celebrated their amazing accomplishments in “Creating a Buzz Through Community Service” and enjoyed visiting with Madam President General Pamela Edwards Rouse Wright at our 121st Annual State Conference in Orlando March 2-5, 2023.  We kicked things off Thursday evening with a very fun Welcome Reception where attendees made new friends during the “Florida Daughters Search” game and discovered new cousins in the “Relatives Around Me” activity.  Some even discovered they were as close as 3rd cousins!

Saturday night was Chapter Regent’s Night.  For the past two years, all Florida chapters have been encouraged to choose a chapter project in their local communities and each and every Florida Daughter has been encouraged to choose an individual project that either helps her chapter, the National Society, or her community.  Seventy-three chapters reported a chapter community project and over 600 members participated in individual projects.  Examples of outstanding chapter projects include hanging banners honoring veterans on city light poles, painting rocks with information about DAR and Constitution Week and placing them throughout the community, and paying for GED tests for needy adults.  The best individual project winner was Amanda Bishop from the Fort Pickens Chapter.  Amanda found and refurbished bicycles to help students with jobs “ride to work.”
