Meet Your Executive Officers - Reporter General Junelle Mongno

Junelle Mongno, Reporter General

I am humbled and honored to serve with President General Wright’s team of incredible women and the entire NSDAR membership as we march toward the nation’s 250th anniversary to the sounds of the Stars & Stripes Forever!

I often wonder what my grandmother is thinking today – it took her so long to convince me to join. Growing up on a Nebraska Sandhills ranch, she told stories about her different possessions and how they came to be – family history.  While home for a few months following college graduation from college and waiting to go on active duty, she and her 4 sisters (all DAR) asked me to type family and childhood memory stories they had handwritten.  I wish I had realized then the value those stories held. I have so many questions now with no one left to answer them.

I finally joined my grandmother’s Evergreen Chapter, but it was twenty years before I became active and learned what DAR was about.  I transferred to Major Jacob Gray Chapter in Arkansas, and they put me to work as treasurer, knowing I was treasurer of the local Sertoma Club, a service organization.  I gravitated toward the military related committees and the work they do.  Arkansas Daughters had fun with my state regent project of honoring women veterans with donation events like baby showers, sock hops, and panty raids. One result of their generosity toward the project was the creation of a lactation room for veteran mothers to use while receiving care at the local VA hospital.

My family was always involved in 4-H, church, school, and community activities.  It was only natural to get involved in DAR.  I volunteer, also, with the local military museum, church, and library.

The Office of the Reporter General is staffed with two ladies who have many years of dedicated experience assisting members with several programs. I am liaison to five very busy committees led by some bright sparkling jewels – Americanism, DAR Project Patriot, DAR Scholarship, DAR Service For Veterans, and National Defense.

My beloved husband Jim passed away days before I was nominated to serve as Arkansas State Regent.  DAR – the service, work, and friendships – was my sustainer and rock during that time.  The Wright Administration theme of “Rejoice in Our DAR Ties of Service and Friendship” exemplifies what a rewarding part of my life DAR has been.
