Meet Your Executive Officers - Treasurer General Sherry Edwards

Sherry Edwards, Treasurer General

Thank you, Daughters, for electing me to the best job in DAR, Treasurer General! I am honored to serve you as the officer in charge of the National Society’s funds and investments and to work with the talented team in the Office of the Treasurer General. Following in the footsteps of my five immediate predecessors is especially meaningful to me because I served with each of them on the NSDAR finance and investment committees. Their support and encouragement have been essential in preparing me for this high office. I will pay it forward!

My professional experience is in economics. I earned my doctorate at the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) and then joined the Federal Reserve System. I enjoyed a 23-year career analyzing reserve and financial market developments and serving on the team that advised the Federal Open Market Committee on monetary policy options.

Outside of DAR, I enjoy biking and hiking, particularly on active family vacations with my husband and two sons. We are also a hockey family, who had the thrill of a lifetime when our Washington Capitals won the Stanley Cup in 2018.

I became interested in joining DAR through my love of genealogy. I had been told that I was eligible, and I proved it! Living in a new town with a new job, I decided to join. I could use the DAR library without paying the then-required entrance fee, and I might make some friends. Little did I realize that my life-changing DAR journey had begun!

From brand new Junior member who barely knew a soul to a nearly thirty-year member with friends all over the country (and more insignia pins, hats, and gloves than I ever imagined), my DAR journey has been incredibly fulfilling. My heart fills with joy when cleaning gravestones with my chapter.

And, my heart nearly burst when the National Society presented its first $250,000 gift from the proceeds of the DAR Insignia Store. What a joy to see the fruits of the multiyear effort by the Insignia Task Force, which I chaired. Each DAR project has enriched my life through meaningful service and more lifelong friends. DAR friends are my treasured, sparkling, precious gems! We work hard together and have great fun as we share life experiences and support each other through life’s ups and downs. I truly Rejoice in our DAR ties of Service and Friendship!
