DAR Insignia Store Hitting Its Stride!

Kathryn West, Corresponding Secretary General

Monumental movement, momentum and milestones are happening at the DAR Insignia Store! It is only natural that I bring you up to date on our progress and remaining challenges. Worldwide supply chain issues are affecting vendors and businesses; however, Insignia is slowly overcoming these issues to make a positive impact on DAR!

For those of you who have placed orders for non-engraved items, movement is the operative word. Presently, orders with non-engraved pins are being shipped in just about two weeks (depending on approvals needed), which is great news! While it may seem like this process should go more quickly, there are several steps involved before the pins can be picked, packed and shipped.

The process requires that each order go through a review, involving both staff and a group of dedicated volunteers. The DAR Insignia Store staff queues the orders received. The orders are then separated for action. If a pin requires no approval, such as a commemorative pin, it is compiled with other like orders, annotated approved and then shipped on a first in, first out basis. The remaining orders are queued under Pin Express review (think about the items on your e-membership profile) requiring extra steps for approval, such as donation pins and state committee pins. Each process step requires annotations in the internal tracking system for staff to see order status.

Orders with engraved pins, while still lagging behind expectations, have definite positive momentum which is expected to continue. Once at a peak of over 22 weeks, engraved pins are now being worked from November, and by early Spring, it is expected that December orders will be in the active queue. The team is pushing hard to be at an eight week turn for fulfillment by the end of April. For those with starter sets and pins with bars, staff must assemble your ribbon or pins. When you think about how thankful you are that the pins came assembled, think about the team (behind the scenes) doing this each day. This time-consuming process slows down the fulfillment of your pins after they are engraved – but the good news is that you do not have to do it yourself!

Milestones are happening each day at the DAR Insignia Store under the leadership of DAR Insignia Store Director, Dominique (Nikki) Williams Kirkland. The first pop-up shop will be at the DC State Conference, Cindy Hays, State Regent, and the team and I appreciate the willingness of the DC Daughters to work with us as we “experiment” for the first time outside the headquarters building. This milestone and the upcoming 131st Continental Congress are sure to be ones for the record books.

Thank you for hanging in there with us. Rest assured, more good news awaits!
