Spring Forward! Volunteer Before June Deadline!

Mary M. Tedesco, National Chair, Service to America

How many Service to America hours can we record into the online tally before the VanBuren Administration deadline of June 27, 2022?

Daughters, that’s up to YOU! Volunteer service is the heartbeat of our National Society. DAR members everywhere devote millions of Service to America hours each year in support of DAR’s mission of Historic Preservation, Education and Patriotism. During the VanBuren Administration, we have already surpassed our 10-million-hour Service to America goal. Let’s see how high we can go; please record your 2022 volunteer hours into the online tally!

Spring is fast approaching and brings more sun, warmer weather and countless opportunities for Service to America in our communities. Daughters and chapters are encouraged to find service projects that are meaningful, memorable and fun. Since spring weather can be unpredictable, below are some options for both outdoor and indoor volunteer activities that support DAR’s mission.

  • Cleaning and restoring gravestones.
  • Holding a ceremony for DAR Commemorative Marker (click here to for information).
  • Upkeep and landscaping at a chapter house or other historical property.
  • Cleanup of a local beach or waterway.
  • Creating and maintaining a community Sunshine Garden.

Service to America – Indoors Any Day of the Week

  • Making Quilts of Valor for deserving veterans.
  • Crating blessings bags for children in need.
  • Volunteering at a local school.
  • Preparing gift bags for newly naturalized United States Citizens.

The community service opportunities for DAR members this springtime are endless! For additional service project ideas, please join the Service to America Facebook Group and visit the Service to America webpages on the DAR members' website.

Share the Sunshine of Service on Social Media

After volunteering, please share service project photos and stories with others by posting on your personal, chapter and state social media (Facebook) pages. You’re also invited to post service project photos, stories and ideas in the public Service to America Facebook Group. This is a great way to spread the word about how DAR members are making a difference in our local communities.

Thank you for Rising and Shining in Service to America!
