The Genealogy Department welcomes the opportunity to clarify a few points about the Registrar Training Course and to explain why it isn’t offered to all members.
As some of you may be aware, the Genealogy Department offers a free 12-lesson course to all current and incoming chapter and state registrars, known as the Registrar Training Course. This course is separate from the rest of the GEP courses and is not available for purchase on Shopify.
Here in Genealogy, we understand that the position of registrar can be a complicated one, and we believe that offering this free course to all eligible registrars is one way of providing another tool to help registrars prepare Applications that meet current DAR standards. Better-prepared Applications result in quicker turnaround time for approval, one of our National Society’s primary goals.
We understand that many of our members want to take all the available training. And we appreciate it! However, we’d like to point out that if you have already taken GEP courses 1, 2 and 3, then you have already taken the Registrar Training Course! The Registrar Training Course is a compilation of the most important lessons from GEP 1, 2 and 3. It is a condensed course to give current and incoming registrars the opportunity to learn the necessary procedures required for preparing and submitting DAR Applications and Supplementals. If you have taken GEP 1-3, then you have taken the same lessons and quizzes as those in the Registrar’s course and had access to the same materials. In fact, considering there are significantly more lessons in GEP 1-3 combined than the Registrar’s course, those who have taken GEP 1-3 have had access to more than what is in the Registrar’s course!
We understand the decision to restrict enrollment in the Registrar’s course to only current and incoming chapter and state registrars may seem unfair to some, but this was done specifically to show our appreciation for all the hard work and effort put in by our registrars. The job is a difficult one, and ladies, we here in Genealogy thank you for all that you do!
For those who are interested in taking GEP courses, the Executive Committee also approved reducing the cost of GEP 1-4! Beginning Jan. 1 of this year, the prices for GEP 1, 2, 3 and 4 were dropped to $75 each. So, we encourage you to learn more about the topics we cover in our courses and to consider signing up for one!
