Today's DAR
Daughters across the country are participating in the National DAR Day of Service, which is conducted on or around October 11, the anniversary of our founding. As we marked 131 years of devotion to our meaningful mission this year, I am certain that our Founders would be immensely proud of the vibrancy of Today’s DAR as illustrated by the myriad projects being completed everywhere you find our patriotic women in service to our meaningful mission.
Celebrating the Seventh Annual National DAR Day of Service
Members “rose” up to complete an array of creative projects, and then “shined” by sharing their work on social media with the hashtag #DARDayofService. I was thrilled beyond measure to see so many of you give so much of yourselves to your communities – huzzah, ladies!
Here are just a few examples of the ways that chapters participated in their DAR Day of Service:
- Collecting and donating goods and toiletries for local food pantries and women’s shelters;
- Writing letters and compiling care packages for deployed troops;
- Cleaning up local historic homes and restoring headstones in cemeteries;
- Packing backpacks with meals and goods for young students in need; and
- Picking up trash and debris along local waterways and parks.

But know that your work is not done! Please make sure to share your events via local and social media, and be certain to enter all of your volunteer service hours in the Service to America Online Tally; then send your stories and photos to [email protected], so that we can share them, too. I am proud to share that, since July 2019, we have rolled over 11 million hours on our tally! Additionally, I encourage you to submit your Day of Service project for the Service to America Award for Outstanding National DAR Day of Service Project.
I thank you for your continued efforts to make a difference in your communities and to demonstrate to others what it means to be a Daughter. I know that our National DAR Day of Service is just one of many throughout the year that you give of ourselves. Our Founders would be very proud, indeed. I know that I am.
