DAR and C.A.R. – Bringing Our Joint Mission to Life!

Each year, the National Society Children of the American Revolution members elect new officers, new chairmen are appointed and new national programs are created to engage the membership throughout the year.  Daughters provide guidance, support, expertise, time and donations to support C.A.R. members – the heart of America and our parent organizations’ future leaders!

Jacob Shadinger, 2021-2022 C.A.R. National President, assumed office following the April 2021 hybrid National Convention.  Jacob is passionate about the C.A.R. National Project, “Keeping Everyone on the Move” through the “11 Strong Campaign.”  C.A.R. will be raising funds to create the first children’s adaptive sports clinic through the OSCAR MIKE Foundation, and Jacob has been an active volunteer and advocate for OSCAR MIKE. OSCAR MIKE is a nonprofit organization that exists to show disabled veterans that their disabilities do not limit them in life and that with motivation and the help of others, they can always be “on the move.” They accomplish this by hosting adaptive sporting clinics, leading a Spartan Race team and a wheelchair rugby team.  “11 Strong” kids will have the opportunity to participate in an adaptive sports clinic alongside an OSCAR MIKE veteran athlete.

In June, C.A.R. learned about flag etiquette and watched a flag retirement ceremony in partnership with the Boy Scouts of America; collected and donated books to a government-assisted childcare center and library and read books to students; toured and completed beautification projects at Bacone College and Kate Duncan Smith DAR School; and supported Apple Ridge Farm in Roanoke, Virginia with several volunteer projects to assist with upkeep that had gone awry due to the pandemic. 

The month of July continued to bless N.S.C.A.R. with opportunities unlike any other time in its history.  Members visited and volunteered to beautify Spangler Farm in Gettysburg; laid a wreath at the Twin Towers site in honor of the 20^th anniversary; honored C.A.R.’s founder, Harriett Lothrop, and member number one, Margaret Lothrop, by placing C.A.R. grave markers at their grave sites at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery; offered a children’s adaptive clinic so that members could experience sporting with physical challenges; and dedicated a tree in Nebraska to express upon our members the importance of conservation efforts.
